For twenty three years now, the Rotary Club of Metro San Francisco del Monte hasd remain faithful to its objective of being of service to the community, guided by the Object of Rotary and the Four Way Test.

Its record of achievements throughout the years, in club, community, vocational and international service, though paling in comparison with other clubs, are sincere efforts to extend its hand of assistance to the less fortunate among us. Following is a year-by-year record of accomplishments from which we can gleam insights and ideas of how we had fared and how we can build upon these successful ideas now and in the near future.

RY 1986-1987
Though still a provisional club, Charter President Juan “Johnny” de la Cruz led the club in its first ever community service project – a visit to the Home for the Aged in coordination with BPI Family Bank employees and the Manila Mandarin Hotel. The club’s weekly bulletin, the “Tugatog” made its maiden appearance this year, and has been published throughout the club’s two decade long existence. After receiving its charter on April 7, 1986, the club also had two successful medical-dental missions in Barangay Masambong, Quezon City.

RY 1987-1988
With the new District 378 barely 4 days old (as all clubs in Quezon City were grouped under one district this Rotary Year), Pres. Antonio “Tony” G. Santos earned the distinction of being its first ever Paul Harris Fellow during the club’s induction ceremonies. A repeat of the medical-dental mission at Barangay Masambong was held this year as well as a very successful Operation Tule later in the Rotary year, also in the same venue. To cap his year of service, Pres. Tony became the first ever participant of the club in a Rotary International Convention, held that year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia, USA.

RY 1988-1989
Pres. Pablo “Pabs” P. Aurellado’s term is spelled Community Service. Among the more prominent achievements during the year was the construction of additional toilet facilities in Sergio Osmeña High School; the lending of two high speed sewing machines at the RC Sto. Domingo managed Likhaan Center; the donation of used clothing to flood victims, the club’s first Christmas gift-giving to indigents; two free medical dental missions; and, the construction of concrete steps in the community wash areas of depressed sections of Veterans Village, Quezon City.

It was also during this year that the Veterans Village Rotary Village Corps was organized. The Foundation of the Rotary Club of Metro San Francisco del Monte was organized and registered with the SEC. The Rotaract Club of Metro San Francisco del Monte was also born this year. Four Way Test markers were also planted in strategic locations within the club’s territory. Four (4) Paul Harris Fellows were the club’s contribution to The Rotary Foundation.

RY 1989-1990
Continuing the previous administration’s assistance to Sergio Osmeña High School, Pres. Edilberto “Edi” F. Florentino led the club in renovating the school’s clinic as well as stocking the facility with medicines. Medicines were likewise donated to the Masambong Health Center and the La Loma Police Station. Fifteen indigent families were the club’s recipients of its Christmas gift-giving and party project at the RC SFDM Rotary Center. Visits and donations were also done at the Golden Acres Home for the Aged, the Research and Study Center harboring abandoned children, and the Home for Handicapped Men at Sinagtala, Quezon City.

In International Service, the club inked its first ever sisterhood agreement with the Rotary Club of San Francisco West, USA. The Inner Wheel Club of Metro SFDM was organized and chartered during the year. In sports, the club bagged its first ever Duckpin Bowling Championship in the Group B Category, after three years of participation.

RY 1990-1991

Goze received its first ever Matching Grant from District 947, Western Australia intended for the improvement and rehabilitation of the Barangay Masambong children’s playground. The club also received its first ever World Community Service Grant for a college scholar. A deep well pump was donated by the club at Veterans Village, Pasong Tamo, Quezon City. Assigned by the district, the club successfully undertook the Search for Outstanding Barangay project.

RY 1991-1992
Two major natural calamities dictated the community service effort of the club during the term of Pres. Maurice “Bong” N. Distor – the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in June 1991 and the Ormoc flash floods in November of the same year – which showcased the club’s ability to muster its meager resources for maximum benefit. Medical-dental missions were done with a new partner in service – the Occupational Health Nurses Association of the Philippines (OHNAP). An innovative Christmas noche buena-giving project was also done for deserving indigent families.

A first ever local club sisterhood agreement was inked with the Rotary Club of San Juan West during the club’s 6th charter anniversary, on which occasion the first ever film documentary about the club’s history was shown. For the first time, the club participated in the District’s GSE Program by hosting an all female GSE Team from San Francisco, California, USA. Also, for the first time, award giving was institutionalized through a merit-based Quarterly Awards, culminating in an Annual Awards Night coinciding with the club’s induction and turnover ceremonies.

RY 1992-1993
Emerging from its cocoon, the club became a major district player during the time of Pres. Thomas Emmanuel “Tommy” R. Romualdo. It hosted two major district activities – the District Assembly or DISTAS ’93 and the District Tennis Tournament. Pres. Tommy was also one of the prime movers in the spread and acceptance of the nationwide 2nd Inter-Metro Sportsfest (held that year in Cagayan de Oro). The eruption of Mount Mayon also gave the club the opportunity to coordinate relief efforts with its new sister club in Bicol, RC Legaspi West.

Multiple activities in all the avenues of service helped in earning for the club several major awards at the end of the year: One of the Five (5) Most Outstanding Clubs and one of the Top Ten Most Outstanding Presidents Award for Pres. Tommy. The club’s bulletin, the Tugatog, was chosen the Most Outstanding Club Bulletin. A major fund raising effort of the club during the year was entitled “Musical Express ‘92”.

Conclusion
These are just words describing the efforts done by the club in the past years in its effort to be true to its mandate as a civic organization. These are the major accomplishments and activities of the club; but much, much more are unrecorded. These include the hardships, the difficulties and the pains in bringing the projects to their conclusion. These, we believe, are what sustain a Rotary Club year in and year out. As we approach our twenty fifth year, we in the Rotary Club of Metro SFDM would like to believe that, in our own small way, we continue to be relevant to the community, to others …
